LGBTQ+ Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy

LGBTQ+ Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy

We welcome You to Empower You Experts however You identify.  Empower You Experts has been a gay affirming practice since its founding in 2006.  We strive to provide a warm, safe and non-judgmental space for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families.  We help LGBTQ+ clients begin to understand their feelings while discovering what barriers may exist that limit their full potential.  Our practice uses an eclectic approach to client wellness and respect the client’s work life, social life, family traditions and sexual orientation – as well as cultural & spiritual beliefs.

We firmly believe that the process of counseling is an art form that is goal oriented in nature, infusing elements of mind, body and spirit to create an environment that is reparative and restorative.

Our practice is rooted in a deep belief in the value of diversity for ourselves, our clients, our families, our communities and our world.

Our goal is to help LGBTQ+ people learn to love themselves and each other.

Empower You Experts believe that it is an essential part of the healing process for LGBTQ+ people to feel like the main focus, rather than an afterthought.  While we work with all kinds of people, we can honestly state that no one understands LGBTQ+ people better than other LGBTQ+ people.

Each clinician at Empower You Experts has been selected for their unique combination of excellent clinical skills and intelligence, and their compassionate hearts.

Our therapists will help you understand yourself and your relationships with more clarity.  We are experts in helping you use that information to create practical and lasting improvement in your life.  Our focus is on change and growth.

We know that most people have little training in identifying and then sharing feelings.  We are effective at helping you feel comfortable to do the- at times confusing, anxiety-provoking work of looking inside.

Therapists at Empower You Experts strive to understand and support individuals facing various issues and beliefs including, but not limited to, the following:

  • the effects of stigma (for example- prejudice, discrimination, and violence)
  • family of origin conflicts, issues and concerns
  • the perception that individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ are mentally ill
  • the belief that sexual orientation can be changed
  • difficulties experienced within LGBTQ+ relationships
  • distinguishing issues of sexual orientation from gender identity
  • specific issues and risks faced by LGBTQ+ youth
  • conflicting norms, values, and beliefs faced by lesbian, gay & bisexual members of racial and ethnic minority groups and QTPOC (Queer & Trans People of Color)
  • previous experiences with therapists who lacked knowledge of or who held biasesagainst LGBTQ+ persons
  • conditions in the world (extended family, school, work, religious organizations, community) that arehostile to, devalue or do not recognize LGBTQ+ relationships or families.

Even though our world has evolved and social attitudes continue to change, there is a continued stigma, harassment, discrimination and violence towards individuals related to sexual orientation and choice of partners, and gender identity and expression, is a fact of life for many.  If you are someone needing to work through these or other issues, please give Empower You Experts a call at 480-848-4411.
