Got Questions?

Everything you need to know about our mental health services and how we can support you.

Where are you located?
Our practice is entirely online, so we can meet from any private, comfortable location of your choosing. As long as you are in Arizona or Illinois, Dr. Lisa can work with you. If you are in Arizona, Illinois, or Indiana, Christina can work with you.
What are the benefits of online therapy?

Online therapy provides numerous advantages for modern life:

  • Convenience: Access therapy from the comfort of your home, eliminating travel time and scheduling conflicts.
  • Accessibility: Reach therapists who may not be available in your local area, including specialists for specific issues.
  • Flexibility: Schedule sessions at times that work best for you, including evenings.
  • Anonymity: Some individuals may feel more comfortable discussing sensitive topics in a virtual setting.
  • Variety of formats: Choose from video calls and/or phone sessions.
  • Reduced stigma: Accessing therapy online can lessen the stigma some feel about attending in-person sessions.
  • Continuity of care: Maintain therapy even when traveling or relocating, ensuring consistent support.
  • Comfortable environment: Engage in therapy in a familiar space, which can enhance relaxation and openness.
  • Greater selection of therapists: Online platforms can connect you with a wider range of professionals with various specialties and approaches.
How long does therapy take?
The time frame of therapy depends on several factors, including your issues and concerns; perception, insight, and understanding of therapy; and your availability and willingness to do the work outside of the therapy office to make changes.
How often should I see my therapist?
Research suggests that you should see your therapist once per week, so we recommend weekly sessions. If you see your therapist less frequently, the experience can become a 'check-in' rather than a deep dive into permanent growth and change. We aim to be flexible, and we will tailor the frequency of our work to meet your needs.
What is therapy like?
Therapy looks different for everyone since everyone has different issues and goals. But in general, you can expect to discuss current difficulties and events occurring in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue(s), and report progress (or any new insights gained) from previous therapy sessions. Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term for a specific problem or longer-term to deal with more challenging patterns. You will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you bring what you learn in session back into your life. Therefore, beyond the work you do in therapy sessions, your therapist may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process, such as noting particular behaviors, patterns, and thoughts; reading a pertinent book; journaling on specific topics; or taking action on your goals.
How does therapy help me?
In therapy, you will learn all kinds of new skills about how to manage your relationship with yourself and others. We also teach you strategies on how to work toward the courage to be imperfect, which gives you a greater sense of acceptance of yourself and others.
How is a therapist different from a trusted friend?
The relationship with your therapist is unlike any relationship you have experienced. There is no other human relationship where you can reveal anything and be assured that you will be accepted. Empower You Experts therapists will not shame you, reject you, or tease you. That is a healing experience in and of itself. It allows you to have a unique feeling of safety and trust. That trust allows our confidence to grow and our shame to soften. We then take that new sense of safety out into the complex world of relationships, work, and school.
What about medication vs. psychotherapy?
Medication isn't a long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and pain. Rather than just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of your distress and the behavioral patterns holding you back. Working with your medical doctor or psychiatrist, you can determine what is best for you. In some cases, a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.
